There are some compatibility issues with WinXP, Media Center Edition (at least that's what Netgear Engineering told me)! Be careful. The corrupted data is not the data on the hard drives you install in the SC101. Your computer is damaged. SC101 is not really compatible with WinXP. You must install the Netgear software including its own network drivers. You get an MS warning that it's not MS certified, but Netgear asks you to install it anyway. The installation goes smoothly. I'm having trouble creating disk partitions on the SC101. Once you do this and restart your computer, it will restart if Windows starts indefinitely before you can do anything (e.g. uninstall). No blue screen, just reboot. I've tried many things to prevent booting into safe mode, "last known good configuration" etc. I couldn't uninstall the machine and get it running again. Finally, I was forced to do a full restore the day before I bought this product. "EMC Dantz Retrospect" for backup/restore and later during the "Please try" period, "Norton GoBack SafeTry Mode" really proved its worth! During all of this I spoke to Netgear. First their CS wanted me to install it on another machine. I think they wanted me to relive the experience. When I said no, they reprimanded me for not working with them to resolve the issue. I was a bit upset and was transferred to Engineering. Initially I was told by phone that Win XP, Media Center Edition was having data corruption issues with the SC101, but the technician working on the problem was not at home at the time and would get in touch with me. Later that day they said Win XP, Media Center Edition was fine. If you insist to buy this product, please do the following: install the software, reboot, partition the hard drive, reboot and transfer the large file to the new partition. If you're happy with this thing, you've been warned. In the end what did I do in the end? I built a small server out of an old computer and a 2300G drive that I bought for the SC101. I'm using Server Elements NASLite+ ([.] It's great, fast, $25, Linux based and works!
