Review on Roku Streambar: 4K Streaming Media Player with Premium Audio & Voice Remote by Ricky Mayo

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I am happy. Good for TV & Video

The first two things. I did some research and knew before I bought that my cheap 4 year old Epson 1060 home theater projector doesn't have an HDMI/ARC port and my spectrum modem has 2G but doesn't display. I googled and figured out how to populate Roku to show a 2G connection by setting up my iPhone's hotspot with the same name and password as my modem since the hotspot is 2G. After connecting with the credentials, the hotspot is no longer needed and Roku finds the hidden 2G that my modem is giving out. I also ordered an HDMI/ARC converter but later found I didn't need it as it has to transfer audio from the TV to the Streambar. Well, my projector has no sound and I don't connect any peripherals to it like a game console, so I really don't need sound going from the projector to the streambar. Once unpacked and plugged in and hooked up to the projector with a standard HDMI cable, the setup was almost non-existent. With the first click everything went by itself. The projector quickly detected WIFI, after which Roku correctly stated that my EPSON didn't have an HDMI/ARC output. I couldn't find a way to get Roku to ignore this issue at first, but hitting the "OK" button multiple times got me out of this setup and tadaaaa! roku added native audio from streaming and completed the process by tuning channels. It all took less than a minute plus about 5 minutes of auto tuning which I could do without but I don't care. This is my fourth ROKU product and I've been at it since they released their original music streaming box 200 years ago. You have never let me down. As for the audio, it's fine if you want to keep your kids entertained and watch TV regularly. It won't shake your liver when you see explosions in any Michael Bay creation, but that's not what I took it for.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • No show
