Wristband not working

I spent 15 minutes putting the wristband in the small hole in the controller. It turns out that this hole is not internally connected to another hole through which the other end of the strap comes out. So both holes are useless. Therefore, there is no way to attach a bracelet to it. I don't need my kids to throw the controller over the TV so I'm giving that back. I've never had much trouble attaching the armband to many other Wii controllers.
