Review on πŸ“Έ Enhanced Veho VFS-008 Smartfix Stand Alone Slide and Negative Scanner (35mm & 110mm) with SD Scanning Feature by David Diaz

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Good high tech and it works well, but the poor quality (and bad instructions) doesn't make it worth the price.

IT IS $96 - not for us, not at all. Good thing we decided in advance to keep everything that came out of the box to make packing easier. We've been disappointed by other high-tech gadgets that don't match the price in the past. First of all very bad instructions. Pictures and instructions are enough to get you started, but it is never explained: 1. That you can only "see" images on your PC after you "snap" them into Smartfix - by typing NO say to connect the PC to the SD card. We discovered this after a frustrating hour.2. What you can do is view either - ie on the Smartfix little 2.4 viewer or on your PC, but not on BOTH - is disappointing. (We did some work to find out the hard way) (In the previous VEHO we had allowed simultaneous viewing on the PC which we have to deal with with a big picture, maybe we're used to it)3. The quality of the 4 JPG images we tried was very poor to say the least. We understand the originals are bad too, but somehow there was another layer of slight blurring or distortion that was barely visible against the light compared to viewing the negatives in AFGA loupe. (We say that because of the price. Of course we understand that these machines cannot work miracles with old photos, slides etc.) Test passed, we keep the car.4. The advertisement for this did NOT state whether the required SD card was included. It is not. Luckily we had one on hand. 4b. The kit includes a lens cleaning brush, but no instructions on how to open or remove the lens. What?! 5. Smartfix supposedly has "instant preview and built-in automatic exposure, color balance and other image enhancements". Well, Balance and Enhancements was really bad. The negatives were either too red, too blue, or too green. (We didn't have this problem with the previous VEHO we had) We had to tweak a lot in Photoshop to get the negative images in good shape. We also didn't expect each of the 5 negatives to be too green, red or blue. Everything else worked fine. We didn't use the plug to display the picture on the TV, so we can't comment on that. disappointing quality - given the $96 price point, we'll probably get this back in a day or two. First vacation and tomorrow we'll start again from the beginning and tomorrow we'll test 4 more film negatives. If more than the same - then it's over A day off also helps our outlook and a clear head We understand the level q The quality of film scanners leaves a lot to be desired, even considering their price. So we will take that into account. At the moment we are disappointed with this VEHO product but not VEHO which is a good brand with a decent reputation. More tomorrow
