My son learned to ride a bike with this bike. Since he was riding his Strider and already had excellent balance, we didn't bother installing training wheels and he did it on the first try. He survived many falls and learned to stand very well. This is a great reliable first bike and it looks great! The only downside is that it doesn't have a kickstand once you learn to ride it without training wheels for a long time. Therefore, it needs to be laid down or leaned against something when not in use. Otherwise a great purchase.
