I have had several dozen room air purifiers. Some brand names no longer exist, which of course means that the special filters used are no longer sold and I have an expensive device that is completely useless without replacement filters. One of the best decisions I've ever made was purchasing a 3M Filtrete FAP02 filter, which was under a hundred dollars at the time. Since it's 3M now, many years later, I can still buy replacement filters with a simple click. With so many air purifiers, there is one very clear truth: none of them is anything but a plastic case with an electric fan inside. that passes the air through some sort of replaceable filter. Regardless of brand, there should seriously be some law on how much some of them cost, from the simplest to the fanciest, because when it comes down to it, they all do pretty much the same thing...pulling air through a filter. The first thing that affects how many airborne particles the device captures is the size of the filter. The FAP02 has a larger than average filter and uses the Filtrete system, considered by many experts to be one of the best filters on the market today. This is what I use in my own HVAC system. Despite all (and all) hype, specs and hype, this is the only way to know how good your air purifier is... take a look at the filter after a few months of use. Nothing else can tell you how effective this plastic electric fan box is at cleaning the air except how dirty the filter is. And I'm here to tell you that of all the air filters I've had, none get as dirty as the FAP02. Look at the pictures of my old filter and this one I just bought. That's what I would breathe! These replacement filters are as good as they get, the only regret is that 3M no longer sells the actual unit.
