Very impressed. It is mostly metal and has 2 bulbs, one on top and one on the bottom. Allows you to view thicker samples as you can only view the top surface. It has some sharp parts (scalpel etc) so make sure you supervise and warn little people. Also, the dyes are not washable, so this is another point to watch out for. Having several prepared slides for immediate viewing was great. My daughter immediately started looking at her eyelashes, fingerprints, dirt, water droplets. This is a great gift and I'm really glad we spent a little extra to get it.
