WILL NOT WORK on 2006 PT Cruiser

The single DIN block fits perfectly (after removing the bezel) in the bracket. The bracket fits perfectly in the dashboard. The harness adapter is color coded and associated with the JVC CD player I bought. I thought it would just work great. When I removed the OEM radio/CD player I saw that it had two connectors on the back, but the included harness adapter only had one connector. Turns out the second outlet is just for the factory installed subwoofer, so no problem right? Now I knew I hadn't made any mistakes connecting the wiring (that's what I do for a living), so I started looking closely. It turned out that only the non-switchable power wire was getting power from the car wiring harness - the wires that were supposed to get a switchable power supply (one that's only active when the key is in the 'Run' position) not even have pins that are connected. them on the car's suspension. The instructions didn't mention this - it wasn't until I went back to the Revain webpage that I realized that you had to connect (separately) to a switched power supply. You need a separate red cable for this. No big deal, right? Not correct. The next switched power source is in the cigarette lighter socket. The only way to access it is to pull out the whole damn center console. But it's still not that easy. The PT Cruiser has a CANBUS system that connects all sorts of things together - that's why the radio/CD player keeps playing even if you turn off the engine and remove the key and just turn it off. when you open the door So the car computer controls the radio, the ignition, the door switches and millions of other things. Remove the OEM radio and the system is down. Now if you bother to dig deep enough in the car to find that switched power supply and hook THIS up to the switched power harness wires, you CAN get an aftermarket radio. works, but it doesn't "talk" to the rest of the car. I've read that it can interfere with all sorts of warning lights and horns and also loses the "stays on until you open the door" feature. So it's not really a plug and play solution. To do this you need a $50-60 adapter that will allow the new radio/CD player to "talk" to the car's computer and everything else over the CANBUS system. What you get with this kit is more like you can make it work.

Pros
  • Everything is great!
Cons
  • Expensive
