I have an old stem and bearing set on my old MTB that I couldn't get the cranks off of. After trying several "tool-less" methods, I broke down and bought a parking tool. It seems like the real deal as it comes in Park Tool branded packaging. It literally took me two minutes to remove the connecting rods with this tool. Some reviews say it pulls threads out of aluminum cranks. I have aluminum and had no problems with it. Make sure you back out the center bolt all the way and screw the outer case all the way into the bottom of the crank threads. Then slowly turn the middle screw to pull the handle. It is so easy. Worked great.
