Zeke, my father's dog, is notorious for drinking. I don't even think he takes his last sip, he just fills his mouth and walks away, leaving a trail of water in his wake. When I found out that my parents were staying with us for a month, I needed a wooden floor protection. I was intrigued by this bowl because I hoped it would make him drink more slowly, and I was right! To train your dog to have water in the bowl, remove all other sources of water and then fill the bowl so that some water is above the paw-shaped hole in the center. You can also apply gentle hand pressure to show them there is water. Both Zeke and Mu-Dog have adapted well to this and my soils are drier. Sometimes there are still drops on the floor but no more puddles, but I owe it to the dog, not the bowl. The only thing I would change is the size, 2 labradors drink a lot.
