Problematic when mountain biking

As mentioned the Mega has a good screen size, is easy to read, easy to set up on the phone and has good battery life. The display is quite simple, but normal. Speed, distance and time are good. And the customer support is pretty responsive and actually replies to emails. But there are a few unresolved issues after using it for mountain biking for 2 years: 1. Altitude readings vary wildly. On my typical 460-480 foot win ride (Boynton Rider 310 and Hammerhead) the Mega shows 370 to 1325 feet! Apparently it tries to correct the barometer reading with GPS data while driving, making it completely unreliable. You can download the ride on their website and it "fixes" this effect, but the corrected gain is about 384ft - more stable but not the same as my other devices. And who wants to mess with it after every ride? Since ascent is a key metric in mountain biking, this is a major concern. It beeps intermittently and says I've stopped, although I'm still moving, typically 3-5 mph over hills. It restarts after a few seconds. It was decided only after they provided a separate wheel sensor - change another battery.3. The temperature reading is always 3-5 degrees higher than other devices, even without sunlight.4. It's slow to respond to incline changes - you won't get accurate readings on shorter hills than others.5. Requires many key presses: It takes 7 presses to turn off when the phone app is not connected! 6. If you don't wait for satellites to be found before you start, only a "Motion detected" message will be displayed when satellites are found. Would you like to record? However, there is no beep to warn you, so you may miss a significant portion of your trip. So I downgraded my Mega to a backup and now use Hammerhead instead, with a lot less frustration.

Pros
  • 48-hour maximum runtime, USB charging, high-resolution screen with vertical or landscape view.
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other picks
