I've been using the TIVO Series 2 for about 10 years but eventually our viewing habits have shifted from broadcast to streaming. TIVO Series 2 struggles with streaming and has limited streaming channels. I finally ended my TIVO service, my TV service, returned the rented adapter card and started using Roku. So, all I can say about the Roku is how it compares to the TIVO 2 series. Take it for what it's worth. The first thing I noticed is that ROKU boots up very quickly and responds to commands, no spinning hourglass, everything is very fast. Second, the picture quality is much better. TIVO must have done some sort of compression or something. The same shows on ROKU have better color reproduction and are much clearer. The voice search works perfectly. The power/volume of the TV worked immediately without any special adjustment. The only downside, and it's very small, is that the supplied HDMI cable is very short and thin. Maybe it's "high quality" but it doesn't feel like it. I didn't use it because I had the best cables on the shelf. The USB power cable is also short, I also used a longer spare cable. These are very small things. I'm excited. I think my savings will be around $60 a month.
