Review on Hydor Pico Evolution: Versatile Centrifugal Pump for Aquariums and Terrariums by Heather Johnson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The GPH is well above the best fish and aquatic animal rating

I compared the Hydor pico 300 to the Eco 264 at 290 GPH and the Maxijet 600 at 160 GPH. the quietest, but it's also a far cry from the 300-gallon rating. If you just put all 3 pumps in the water and watch the flow it's pretty obvious that the Eco 264 is moving a lot more water than the other 2. I also have a pair of Hydor Rotating Deflectors which have a rotation speed that is directly related to the flow of the water is related. Water moves over them. When I connected all the flow baffles directly to the outlet of the pumps, the Eco spun much faster than the Hydor and Maxijet. The Hydor is in second place, barely moving any more water and turning the draft deflector faster than the 160 GPH Maxijet. At zero head, I'm guessing the Hydor 300 is much closer to circulating 200 gallons per hour. This flow drops sharply with each pressure. I gave it 3 stars because it's very small and very quiet, so I'm going to use it for mixing salt water. If you're looking for a pure flow powerhead, this might be a good choice. This pump would be my last choice for a pump that needs to lift water to any height or through multiple pipes or hoses.
