Review on Axle HSG Cover Differential Seal by Christopher Millet

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Will not fit in my car

Most parts are the same on all Buick Rainier 4.2L SUVs EXCEPT 2004. I discovered this the hard way. The rear diff on my 2004 has a larger bolt pattern and unfortunately I didn't find out until I was in the process of installing this spacer. The problem is, if you don't put the tape measure on the lid and gasket, you won't find out until you put the gasket on the lid. At this point you have already canceled your option to return the pad because as I found out later when trying to repackage the pad to send it back, they will not accept returns if the package has been opened. I didn't see this note because it's on the back of the package. Luckily this is a great value pad and when you get your hands on it you'll see why. I'm not sure if it even works, it's so thin but I still couldn't use it. There are 2 different seals. One for 8.0 and one for 8.6?. It can be difficult to be sure which one you have unless you have the original paperwork that came with the car from the dealer. The best way to determine this is to measure the distance between the centers of the screw holes. You cannot buy the wrong gasket with this information.

Pros
  • Rugged construction
Cons
  • Not automatic
