Amazing tool

I've kept debating whether I should buy this one or stick with buying a Dremel (again). I had a Dremel a few months ago, used it briefly, then took it back to the big store (orange) because it wasn't powerful enough for my project/task. Fast forward a few months and then I'm in a situation where I need a different rotation tool. I searched for "best dremel/rotary tool" and a forum post mentioned Foredom. I had never heard of them before and decided to check them out. Wow. I can only say expensive. I looked at different models, thought about it and decided to give up and put my project on hold. Eventually I got to the point where I needed a lathe tool and had to finish my project. So buy a cheaper Dremel or a more expensive Foredom? Spring. I went with Fored. For the price of the Dremel 4000, I expected to spend about $90 after tax. Sure, I got a lot of beats, but in the time I spent trying out the other one I got back, I burned two beats (I paid for them right away and obviously didn't get them back). The Foredom has an all-metal body for the motor and is 1/6 horsepower. The tool holder is also excellent, all metal and doesn't feel like the cheap plastic junk found on cheaper/more common rotary tools. The quick release tool/handle is great too, just remove it and switch to another (if you have one). This can be useful if you switch beats frequently, but for my purposes I'll stick with one and just switch beats. I just installed it and started using it today to test PVC pipe and wood, but haven't done much more than that yet. It's easy to use and VERY quiet. A few words about the bits included in the kit. The purple tips that look like spikes or morning stars are actually metal and NOT plastic like I thought when I bought them.

Pros
  • Enjoyable
Cons
  • Obsolete model
