I brought two of these and have used them in the US (110v), UK (240v) and Europe (110v). short circuit protection. The adapter will light up to indicate that the device has power. The design of the adapter makes it easy to choose the right port for the country. However, some US laptop users have an unfortunate drawback: the output jack doesn't accept the built-in 2-pin US laptop power adapters well enough - for example, the US MacBook Pro charger won't stay plugged in and will fall out after a minute . You can find MacGyver workarounds by leaning books against the adapter or using rubber bands to press the laptop charger against the adapter, but that's ultimately a design flaw with this travel adapter. For my needs, 4 USB charging ports still made the purchase of this adapter worthwhile despite the annoyance mentioned.
