Silverado 2500HD 6.0 Gas 4x4 2012 The trailer braking system was reported after an unintentional drive through an agricultural field. Research found this to be a common malfunction. Because of this, I ordered a new one to replace it. When I got to the relay on my truck (had to drop the spare tire) I found that the hardware was badly rusted and also noticed corroded wire damage. This relay is mounted on a separate bracket together with the computer module. With the entire assembly removed I was able to access the relay mounting screws to grind down the heads for removal. In the process I had to repair two rusted wires with about 6 inches of new 12 gauge wire. When everything was assembled, I no longer had the error message. In the end the relay was probably fine, but cheap insurance for a part that is known to fail.
