Review on Bee Paper Super Deluxe Sketch Pad, Small Size 4x6 Inches by Doris Tran

NOT watercolor paper but very strong drawing paper - ideal for art journaling

The reason I'm giving this Super Deluxe Album four stars isn't because I don't like it because of the paper This is a lightweight one , dimensional drawing paper. From several reviews I have the impression that the paper in this book is suitable for watercolor, but it is not. The pages are white, bright and SUPER durable. They can withstand up to a ton of water. I literally dunked the entire front in puddles of water, and while there was *slight* warping, it didn't bleed onto the back of the paper at all. And the book is packed with paper - 60 sheets! That is amazing. The problem for me is that the pigment in watercolor fades significantly on this paper - I've tested it with a variety of paints from Holbein to Twinkling H2Os and all the colors faded a bit when painting on this particular paper compared to regular watercolor Paper. I am very obsessed with color and the clear and vibrant gradients that come with controlled washing, so seeing the colors fade was a huge disappointment. I haven't tried gum arabic on paper before painting - this might help. But I was hoping that this paper could be something like lightweight watercolor paper, but it's not. It can handle water and moisture, but it sucks out the paint. While I won't dedicate this notebook to watercolor work, it's absolutely perfect for an art magazine (probably *the best art magazine I've found - big, sturdy). , perfect for mixed media, tons of pages, perfect size.) and a variety of other mediums - ink painting, markers, pastels, etc. Anything that is *largely* dry, or anything that you use a layer of plaster for, would be ideal for this magazine to use.
