I was always skeptical about smart watches, but I decided to buy them for sports, as an alternative to sports watches, which are mostly bulky, miserable and do not carry any benefit in everyday life (I'm talking about notifications, contactless payments, calls, music, etc.). I also considered Garmin Fenix, Polar Vantage V and Apple Watch 4. The choice fell in the direction of AW4 because of their versatility. I wore them for about a year, everything is fine, comfortable, the straps are fire and you can receive calls when it is not possible to pick up the phone (during training, for example), read notifications and answer with your voice. Contactless payment also saved more than once when neither a phone nor a card was at hand. In all this, they are certainly good. But for sports it is a very dubious thing. In particular, because of the heart rate sensor, which is terribly lying in high zones and when the skin is wet at the point of contact with the sensor. I sweat during training, like all normal people, and naturally the skin under the sensor is wet, then lags begin, at best, a jerky schedule and incomprehensible jumps, at worst, an absolutely incorrect display of the pulse. For example, in the gym on a simple complex with rowing and weights, on the next lap, the pulse jumped sharply above my maximum 185 to 205. I kept training at 165-190, it felt like 130-140, it’s very difficult to breathe and speak at 190, here I didn’t even have shortness of breath. The only way to connect and exercise with a chest strap, this optical sensor is suitable for light loads. GPS is also the same, sometimes it draws something that you think “did you run it?”, As a result, the calculation of the pace and distance was not correct, often the training was blind. The battery during training melts quite rapidly, but with everyday use you can carry two days without recharging. A year later, I began to think about sports watches.
