Review on Shark Wi Fi Robot Vacuum RV761 by Nicole Nelson

Short lived robot, inconsistent quality

4th update: If I could give this zero stars I would. That's the most annoying thing. 2, much cheaper, iLife and the unnamed Apsom survived. 9/10 when I turn this on it has a complaint and I have so many complaints that I have to look up what each indicator means (my aposom actually tells me) and then fix it. For the time I spend troubleshooting, I could probably vacuum myself. It's 3 short beeps today which is different from other beeps and I've never heard anything so I don't even know how to fix it. Last month it didn't work for several weeks because it didn't recognize charging despite cleaning. My poor Aposom is overwhelmed with work because he has to do the whole house by himself again today. 3rd update: I was uncomfortable giving my credit card number over the phone, possibly going abroad to get a warranty replacement. Shark does not offer online checkout or payment options or alternatives other than providing your credit card over the phone, and they DO NOT provide free warranty replacements. So I got a prepaid card and paid $25 with it to be able to get my three-month-old dead robot back. I received my replacement and it's LOW, so they're either sending refurbished units that haven't been repaired and tested properly for a warranty replacement OR they're completely inferior. My first robot could literally suck on a toy or sock while working and keep moving. He would even go through the children's gate, it was an off-road vehicle. The new robot gives me an error EVERY DAY since I got it. The wheel got stuck in a random popcorn kernel. The roller is stuck because there is hair on it. The suction is clogged with a tiny piece of paper. This robot isn't even worth the $25 I paid for shipping. I'm so disappointed in Shark that I gave up my dream of the Shark Duoclean cordless vacuum cleaner and bought a Dyson instead. In comparison my cheap ilife robot which is older than my Shark got crushed under a chair last week, I put the bumper back on and it still works better than my Shark replacement. 3 months, does not load and does not turn on, died. I don't expect vacuums that run daily to last forever, but at least a year. Support couldn't get it to work, so your only option is to replace it (and you have to return the robot and pay $25 upfront over the phone before it gets replaced, and the replacement is out of warranty). This is my third robot vacuum cleaner. I used this specifically as a replacement for the one I use on the Berber rug in the formal area which is the open plan living/dining area. This is important information because it tells why I had to replace the other one. Before getting a second one for carpeted rooms, I tried to move back and forth between the two areas, which was a problem. The one I used between two rooms worked great. Since it didn't have a brushroll, it didn't bother the Berbers, and it was 2.99 inches tall, so it didn't fit under the side supports of our dining room chairs. As soon as we got a new one we had problems. 1) it missed the Berber and 2) it was 2.8 inches tall so it just got under the side supports and by just I mean enough to get stuck. I don't know about you, but I'm busy. That's why I want a robot vacuum cleaner. Or in this case 1 per room. I don't use the scheduling feature because I have kids and need to pick them up first. However, with the robot vacuum cleaners, my morning routine is just beginning. I get up and pour coffee, empty the dishwasher, put away the laundry and start the washing machine again, then quickly pick something up to start the robot vacuum. Then I usually have to leave the house. I don't want to go home to move the vacuum cleaner to get to other rooms, so I have a second one. However, getting home and tucking a second one under a chair instead of dealing with the vacuum defeats the purpose. I have a robot vacuum so I can return to a clean home. So use the Shark Ion. It doesn't look as streamlined as many other brands, but it works. And in the 3-inch range, it's no good getting stuck under my chairs. It can still get under the table through the higher front-to-back gap, but it won't get caught. Off-road wheels work well with things that kind of get in their way, although I just picked them up. A multi-surface brush gets along with my Berber much better than a carpet brush. As a result, it does not slip on my (structured) Berber carpet. Edge brushes are good for removing things from the edge or even under the front of the sofa. Their assembly was just putting them on, nice and easy, and really the only assembly required. The shark doesn't seem to be as "smart" as my other robots. His movements seem more random and less fluid. Also, my others snuggle up against the wall or the edge of the couch and bend in and out to make sure she can get under any edges and get what the side brush throws out. The shark doesn't seem to do that. He's doing his job and that's important to me. The suction power is also very good. We live in the sandy south and I was surprised at how much sand could get out of the carpet (it was deep enough I didn't realize it was there), usually a problem even with big vacuums. Let's say it might not be as smooth or nimble, but it's durable in quality. A chunkier look translates into a sturdier feel. It's also consistent. My other robots sometimes have trouble finding their base or landing on it perfectly to charge. I'll come home with the job done, but the vacuum cleaner is dead. Shark knows exactly what he's doing. He goes straight to his base and lands perfectly every time. It even sucks around its base while my others stay about 3ft apart unless they're going home. The bin is big, I can vacuum several times before I have to empty it (and my kids are not tidy). A screwdriver is required to replace the filter, but since you only need to replace it about every 6 months I guess I don't need to hunt for a screwdriver. The robot does not come with a remote control, it has easy-to-use controls on board or an app. The problem with the app is that it requires Wi-Fi to sync and you can't enter words/network information manually. Because my WiFi is hidden, I couldn't connect to try the app. Since it has built-in controls and I don't use the scheduling feature, this wasn't a problem for me, but if you don't have WiFi at home and want to use scheduling, it can be viewed as a hotspot or Bluetooth. won't cut it. Despite the downsides, I would have preferred the reliable and powerful cleaning I get with this Shark. At just $300, this is a solid option from a trusted brand. UPDATE: I know it has downsides but I had to upgrade it to 5 stars because it was just taking up the space I was taking. My kids had toys all over the room and my 2 year old turned on them. I would never turn it on with small toys because I'm sure it will get stuck. A few big balls or light big toys are one thing because they can push them around and small toys just get stuck. Or so I thought. I walk up to him, climb over little toys, I'm not kidding, he hasn't climbed any and then he yells his bike is stuck, he just climbed over it. Then I turn it off to put it back in and I go to empty it and this thing sucked up the little toy without clogging. I'm not talking about Lego, I'm talking about a piece of toy cheese. It's not flat cheese, it's curved with holes (maybe Swiss cheese) and can be 4 inches long. He sucked it all up in the trash can. The suction power is amazing. Add a small brush bordering the suction hole opposite the brush roll so it doesn't fling anything out but sucks everything up, it's just amazing. He was also dragging a string lying on the floor (he ended up sucking). Somehow this brushroll and wheels won't clog, stick or tangle. All my previous bots twisted the cord in their wheels, side brushes or brushes and then I had to unwind it. This is seriously a low maintenance bot.
