Awesome Electronics

Got this in the mail this morning and have been playing with it all day. I'm just excited about it. This capture device can capture anything in native 1080p (1920 x 1080) resolution at 60 fps and below. I didn't experience any quality loss in my recordings in terms of resolution, bit rate or frame rate. Testing with video capture options will give you a better understanding of what it takes to get high-quality video with a decent file size. The higher the recording quality, the larger the file size. And file size is a crucial factor when uploading a video to Youtube or archiving it for later. (FYI: A 5-minute, 720p, 60 FPS, "best" quality video was about 500 MB). I also didn't experience any lag when using the device I'm recording from. I was a little skeptical about the latency (since the capture device is acting as an HDMI bypass), but I shouldn't have worried. I didn't notice any difference with Elgato on or off. And that's great. The only small problem: I have the edit mode in the Elgato software. The software does a great job of recording/encoding videos but the edit mode is completely absent and I don't know why they decided to include it there. I would recommend using another program like Sony Vegas (and heck maybe even Windows Media programs) for better video editing. This capture card is definitely great and was way better than the other two I've had from other brands. The quality is fantastic, but prepare to spend a little more for the best video editing software if that's what you like. Deserved 5 out of 5.
