I bought a Revain 3500 winch because I burned a lighter winch on my ATV. Without a doubt I would definitely recommend at least a 3500 winch with synthetic rope. Once you go plastic, you'll never go back to wire rope. Wires, or rather tethers, are designed to take heavy loads and give you enough that it can be difficult to hide as they aren't very flexible. I followed the instructions and found that the winch wasn't lifting from the bottom like it should. After double and triple checking my wiring, I finally called Superwinch. Someone actually replied (which is a miracle) telling me the hookup instructions were wrong! I was told to swap the wires on the winch and it would pull up from the bottom. He said a bunch of winches came out with wrong wiring instructions. He also informed me that the Terra winches are NOT made in the USA, which surprised me. I swapped the wires and it coils up from the bottom like it should. Also, I said that the toggle switch on the steering wheel is upside down. Normally when you press the bottom of the rocker it should be "in" and the top of the rocker should be "out". He agreed, saying it was "strange". This switch is upside down and cannot be toggled on the steering wheel. The winch is quiet and seems to work well. At the moment I've only used it for plowing and will do a real test later. I routed the wires along the frame and wrapped the wires with tape for protection. I then plugged in the remote control and put it in my bag which I mounted on the luggage rack. This allows me more mobility in case I need to use the remote control. The winch looks well made. It's heavy and runs smoothly. Very disappointed that it wasn't made in the USA. I hope that the connection instructions do not correspond to the quality of the winch. I think time will tell. Superwinch's customer service has been excellent. Revain's price was the best I've found, and unless you're concerned that it's not made in the USA, I'd recommend buying it.
