Review on Solder Fume Extractor Filter Filtration by Zach Peterson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A great addition not only to make breathing easier when soldering electronics, but also to improve visibility.

I have been soldering electrical cables, circuits and connectors for almost 50 years. This simple device definitely works. I've used fans before, but they were tricky to place, and as the smoke moved, so did the temperature. This is a very simple approach, but it works well. As with any technique or process, you learn and improve with practice. This simple fan with a matched filter worked fine for me. You need to adjust the proximity of your work from where your hardware works. I've seen that if you can't position your work in front of this fan, it won't work either. When I first started I had to move the fan and/or portable vise to get the best smoke out of my work area. I was able to place the work in a small swiveling vise and use the lighted magnifying glass to get the job done. Basically assemble audio jacks, strip and tin the cables in preparation for soldering. And he was surprised to see how much "steal" had accumulated on the filter. Come to think of it, I've been inhaling this smoke for years. I was skeptical at first but after using it I now believe. The small built-in on/off switch is a nice feature. Especially after setting up the workplace. Easy to turn on and off. And came with a replacement air filter.

Pros
  • smoke extraction
Cons
