I've had trouble with car phone mounts. It took me about four to get one that works and suits my needs. So I'm a bit skeptical about claims about mounting fixtures. As for my Garmin, I've decided I'd rather not mount it on the windshield and it looks like I have two options; a beanbag or it's a friction mount. The soft bean felt a bit bulky to me and didn't have a folding mount. My swing was the friction mount. Not on a suction cup, not on glue, not on a vent, not on a CD slot, just friction. IT WORKS! The bottom is sticky, non-slip and does not dangle. Note: I have a 2005 Subaru that has a relatively flat (slightly forward sloping) centerline. The base is slightly flexible but not designed to form an uneven surface.
