I bought this USB-AC56 to replace an old Linksys wireless USB adapter that I was using now that my computer is nowhere near the modem. The speed on the old adapter was, well, less than outstanding. But with this new one? Wow, the difference between day and night! Where the old one had trouble getting 2Mbps from the room directly above the router, this one is approaching 60Mbps. Not to mention I can see a lot of other networks now, which is impressive since these houses have multiple hundred meters away! For the sake of clarity, I screwed in an additional antenna so that the internal antenna is not used. Windows 10 connects the adapter without installing Asus software and it works fine in this configuration, but I was able to improve performance by downloading the Realtek driver for RTL8812AU, which is the chipset in the device. Interestingly, the Realtek driver also identifies it as an Asus device and is newer than the Asus proprietary driver. My only real complaints are the slightly stiff USB cable (had to bend it to keep it from tipping over) and the flashing blue. bright. Seriously, tech companies, stop lighting everything blue! At least this one isn't stupid bright.
