
Because the BMW factory has been training technicians for 17 years, this is a good tool with a good price and finish. It is comparable to the OEM or Baum brand. The threads are taut and the inside of the gasket will likely come out first. Then turn the tool in until it stops, lower the threads to the end, and then pull out the remaining gasket. Sometimes I use a little heat with a gas torch to heat the seal if needed and it comes out like oil. Do not attempt to pull the oil seal out without this tool as it is too easy to damage the crankshaft hub and the new oil seal may leak. Also, as you've probably already figured out, pulling it out this way is awkward. Use the right tool for the job and avoid brain damage.
