Why can't I aim directly from the attachment?

The glass bottle is thick, heavy and strong; Spray is not what I expected. The oil comes out in a stream instead of a mist and the nozzle goes down when you squeeze it so I was never able to direct the oil where I was aiming. The end result is using more oil than intended and cleaning the countertop afterwards. I bought another misty spray bottle and I don't know what to do with this guy.
