I bought this router to "upgrade" from an old N300. The N300 was a workhorse that just worked, but the Wi-Fi technology was old and had limited bandwidth .My son now has a 4K TV and tries to play a lot of online games so I went with a newer router with modern technology hoping the WiFi speeds would be much better than what I'm paying for but it's also common to get download speeds between 1 and 10 Mbps!!10 feet to the side and directly under his bedroom. We even put a wi-fi extender in his room.I understand the distance and obstacles will affect the signal but there is no excuse for such a terrible connection when the router is off.just one floor down and only 15-20 feet from his gear.I'm on the other end of the house and less than 30 feet from the router. Of course there are two walls and a floor between me and the router, but my old N300 offered a much more reliable WiFi connection, even if it was significantly slower! This will probably be my last Netgear router for now and I don't think I'll wait long to upgrade given the poor performance (I've only had it 2 months at the time of writing this review).
