Plant-based, eco-conscious cleaning

I first learned of Cleancult while researching natural laundry powders a few years ago. We don't buy any household and health products with dyes, artificial fragrances, and harsh chemicals, preferring instead to stick to stuff that is mostly plant-based and better for the environment. Biodegradeable if possible, but if not, then at least made from ingredients that are less toxic. Once we had kids, it became more important to us to eliminate harsh chemicals and toxins in our home. (Our cleaning lady, without prompting, started using a vinegar mix for our bathrooms, instead of FABULOSO All Purpose Cleaner, Lavender, Bathroom Cleaner ).For laundry, we use Nellie's Laundry Soda or Charlie's Soap and Borax instead of that blue stuff that comes in bottles. For dishes, we use Kirkland Ultra-Shine and Seventh Generation. For air fresheners, we use Citra Solv Air Scense Essential Oil Air Freshener, Orange, Non-Aerosol, 7 Ounce .I appreciate the effort Cleancult makes to minimize packaging. Other companies offer refills too, but they come in non-recyclable plastic pouches. This one is paper based and all you have to do is rip off the spout before putting the carton in with the rest of your paper recyclables.Cleaning power and scent are both good. The fragrance is very subtle and delicate. We use it for counters and our dining room table mostly -- which the babies make a mess of every night.

Pros
  • Eliminates odors for a fresh-smelling home
Cons
  • May not be effective at removing odors from surfaces
