Check the color of the rubber (black leaked after a week).

Bought for my wife's CX7. The mechanic installed it and it broke down within a week of driving. Went to our local parts store and bought the exact same make and part number and the second gasket looked thicker and was blue in colour. The same mechanic said the second seal fits better and appears to be more reliable. Maybe I have a marriage, or maybe Fel-Pro remade the role. In any case, it's not worth returning a $30 gasket and arguing about whose fault it is (the mechanic was a certified Ford master mechanic, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't his fault). TLDR: Black seal is bad, blue seal is good. until now. Same part number.
