yes it is spicy But there is a "but "...

Edit: Ugh. Revain paired the 28mm with the 50mm, meaning reviews are mixed. Why should they do this? To be clear, my review is for a 28mm f/2.8 manual focus lens for the Sony E-mount. First, I agree with the reviews that say this lens is sharp. And it's sharp right in the corners when a little muted. I'll leave the details to others as they are well documented. So what's the problem? You might not believe it, but I thought the bezels were wrong. Aperture values from f/2.8 to f/22 are indicated on the top of the lens. But when I looked into the lens and rotated the aperture ring from f/2.8, nothing happened up to f/4.0. Strange. I figured the blades might not be fully visible so I put them on camera (A6000) and did the same while looking at the exposure values. The same thing; nothing has happened. Then I looked at a few more stops and noted the shutter speed suggested by the camera. Then I removed that lens and installed a cheap 16-50mm kit (Sony) and the shutter speeds were different. So I went about it differently, using 16-50mm first and shooting those shutter speeds at different apertures (all at ISO 100). When I installed Meike, I needed very different apertures to achieve the same shutter speeds. Then I repeated the test with my Nikon. Nikon and A6000 with 16-50mm were very close together. But with the exception of f/5.6, there was no makeup. In fact, it was almost useless. And it didn't seem to have any pattern on it, so there was no other way to make it up to me other than to engrave the correct numbers on the ring. Pooh. Usually it is returned for another block. But after looking at some of the published CA and MTF results I see a correlation with the problems found. This indicates a design issue... Does it matter? I can't tell if it matters to you, but to me with landscapes you don't know what a depth of field is unless you know what a real aperture is. I suppose you could cover more than you need "just to be safe" but for now give up the inflection. But the reason you bought that lens was because it was sharp, right? Yes, the price was amazing, but I would be very upset if I brought home fuzzy pictures because I wanted to save a few bucks. I think for me it should be Sigma 30mm DN. That's very bad too. This part of the lens should be easier to pin down than everything you need to do to get crisp images. BTW: I mainly shoot landscapes and you might be wondering why I use 28mm. The answer is panoramas. A narrower angle allows more shots of the same view at high magnification, increasing the number of pixels.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Functionality
