I love this leather strap. It's very similar to what I did many years ago. These straps do a very good job of making a knife made of good steel razor sharp. They also make your knife easier to maintain, as just a few pulls of the strap rejuvenate the knife blade into a sharp condition. I use green grinding paste. It works well and I have the most experience with it when sharpening knives. Here are some of my experiences with this sling: My father taught me how to sharpen knives with a sling over 60 years ago. I was so good at it that he made me sharpen all his knives from then on. A few years ago I made my own leather belt from parts I bought at a local store, but it cost more than this one at Revain. Sometimes I heat the surface of the sling with a hair dryer or a strip of polishing paste to soften it and make it easier to apply to the skin. When I saw this line I liked the way it looked and wanted to try it. I always apply the green polish mixture to the smooth leather side, quite thickly. In my opinion the green polishing paste works well and helps keep the blade sharp and beautiful. The mass darkens after a while due to the metal removed from the blade and left on the mass. At this point I put a small drop of Lite Oil on the surface and rub it gently with my fingertip, this helps remove the metal from the surface and soften the polish. Even a drop of olive oil will help clean the surface of the composition. After sharpening the smooth side of the knife blade with green polishing paste, I make a few strokes with the knife on the suede side. This will help remove green debris from the knife and even sharpen the edge of the blade a bit. Just make sure the angle at which the knife is sharpened is 20 degrees. Sometimes I use Goo Gone to remove the residue on the knife blade. I never feel like a knife is really sharp until you remove the original factory sharpening lines from the blade because you've been sharpening the knife for a year or two (or more). You can tell when a knife blade looks like a smooth mirror. I love this product and gave it a 5 star rating.
