I bought these lanterns with the express intention of having some cute artificial trees to decorate my Christmas porch. I like lots of light, so even though the trees were only a few feet tall, I jumped 33 feet (which at the time seemed like the longest I could get on a battery). We don't have an outlet on our porch, so a battery operated string of lights is a must. The addition of a remote control is just a bonus. I like just opening the front door, not even fumbling with shoes or opening the storm door, just turning it on with the remote control. You can also program them to turn on for several hours, which is what I did. However, they require a lot of batteries, not only because I left them on for several hours each night, but also because they were away from home. cold all winter. My porch is closed so I can say the lights were still on even though they weren't exposed to the elements. It will not damage the battery cabinet or the core itself. The light emits a very clean, bright light with a bluish tint that can be seen several houses away (no small traditional Christmas lights here!) which is wonderful at Christmas. They can be used for almost any accent. They also have flash and tracking settings which I don't need but would be a great addition for crafters. The battery box is very heavy and large to hold the many, many AA batteries it takes (six). So if you mount them behind something or somewhere, be prepared for that extra weight - the cord itself is next to nothing. .Anyway, these are really great devices for my purpose.
