We are camping and taking our dog with us. She was used to walking off the leash but only at paddling/camp/wilderness - she was a total nutcase in the city. Our county recently changed a decades-old leash so we only have to prove the dog is in control if required by authorities. I would prefer my dog not to be attached to me all the time, so we decided to try off-leash training. Our girl has always been on a lead in civilization (she is just over a year old) and our first two attempts to work her in the neighborhood were disappointing (although she is generally quite well educated) because of all the temptations , so we decided to try a training collar on her. This is only the second time in the video that we're walking off-leash in the suburbs. For some reason the reviews team won't let me post a video but I was able to upload it to the product videos section just above the reviews section of this collar - check it out to see the collar being used on a real dog. , in a real situation - this is not a simple useless unboxing video. We had one of these collars when she was a pup so we had some experience with it but it died at 6 or 7 months and we didn't bother to replace it as she figured out what we needed from it before he did died and the seller didn't respond so we just did without him. But we needed to clarify the situation, when we were offered this to try I jumped on the offer. I charged it when it arrived a week ago, she wears it several hours a day now, I don't separate the pieces and I haven't had to charge any of the pieces yet. Does the battery gauge say I'm only down 2 bars out of 5? Not bad! The collar itself is nylon webbing with reflective side threads - for small dogs, especially tiny ones, this may be too much. The buckle is made of durable plastic and has never been accidentally loosened. I have some issues with it loosening up a bit after wearing it a couple of times and I have to tighten it from time to time. Remember to add a flat velcro strap to keep it in place. But it's a lot better than the plastic collar that the old one had. EDIT: I ended up adding a latch because the buckle didn't slide well. There is almost no "wake up" delay for the collar remote. Example - you haven't used the remote for 10 minutes - the display is in auto-off mode and you *now* need to page the dog. My old device took at least 5 seconds to "wake up" and send a signal. It is too long. This one sends a signal when the second button is pressed - one wakes it up and the next one sends a signal until you actually block it by sliding the locking button on the side. The indicator on the collar flashes every 5 seconds, making it easier to see at night. That doesn't bother me at all, even at home. The light on the remote control only stays on for about 3 seconds (after each button press) and then turns off to save battery power. The display itself goes off after about 5 minutes, but as I said, with a slight delay - double-click the button you want and it will send a signal when it returns to the display. The tones are slightly reversed as the softest is "H8" and not "H1" as you might think. Vibration and shake are as expected - lower numbers mean lower settings. But so strange with the sound. I keep sound at H8, vibration at 5 and shock at 25 (down from 99). She immediately replies 25, so I see no reason to go higher. I played around with it a bit and by 15 she was replying *sometimes*, by 20 she was replying more often, but by 25 she was replying 90% of the time right away. I think the only thing I would change besides the order of the tones (and maybe make the shut off sound a bit quieter) is to put a port cover on the remote's USB charge port, just like the collar itself. I need it in a waterproof one Keep bag or something for when we kayak or it rains on us because the collar is supposed to be waterproof for swimming with the dog (she swam in it at the dog park to see) but that open port on the remote gets in the way me. I think it's a decent set and the $27.99 price tag is fair IMO, but if you can snag it lower, go for it! At this point I would recommend it without hesitation. If my mind changes or something goes wrong within an unreasonable amount of time I will definitely update this review.
