If you don't read anything else I write here read this: This rack was the best choice I could have made for my car and bike. Great match. No damage to bike or car. Nothing unscrewed along the way, did not have to tighten. There is no hesitation. No wheel slip. No shaking, no rebound. Drove about 1400 miles from LA > Austin, TX through a few showers. Some blinded. Wind conditions push the 18 wheelers in front of me. It doesn't matter. No problem. Now if you are interested in some details, read on. And I've even included a few photos for the first time so you can see how I made small adjustments to meet the needs of my bike-car combo. After reading the reviews here on all the bike racks I considered and visiting a few local bike shops near me, I finally decided to buy this one from Amazon inventory. Yes guys, I had to wait for the "refund" but it arrived 2 days before my departure date as promised by Amazon. There were some minor scuffs on the stand that weren't significant and there were no instructions, but that didn't matter as the assembly of the stand is very easy to visualize. The challenge was to securely attach this carrier to my 2000 Saab 9-5. The first thing I noticed was that each of the 1 inch nylon straps was very long. eventually shorten. I opened the trunk up the way I thought it would roughly fit and put the top 2 feet on the trunk and the bottom 2 feet on the bumper. But it didn't look like the bars holding the bike were angled down. I wanted the bike to lean into the car a bit, so I adjusted the rack (without the bike) a few times, lifting the bike each time until I got the right angle. At this point I also decided it was time to make 2 adjustments to my bike which were the "key" to my success: I removed the saddle and post and removed 2 pedals. Buy a pedal wrench, they're cheap and will keep the car trim. Read concerned comments. Since I didn't have a seat, I could see behind me. Once I had the right frame configuration, I started tightening the straps. The rubberized clips at the top and bottom of the trunk stopped slipping and held tight, then I tightened them a bit. I tested it on the bike and put some on. I centered the carrier on the car and centered the bike on the carrier. I had a small but equal overhang on each side of the car. No need to worry about parking. The only strap that confused me was the very long strap at the very top between 2 feet near the rear window. What was that for? how to use it I could not understand the reason for his position. I considered many options, but finally decided to change its position, which meant it would be clipped from the top plate. I carefully studied my solution and found that I could cut the strap off the steering wheel without damaging it. Once I did that, I attached the strap to the bottom bar of the luggage rack under the license plate and that was key to the stability I enjoyed. This movement brought the entire structure together into an incredibly strong, stable, and impact-resistant application for my bike-car combo. I added velcro straps, bungee cord, heavy red folded denim between the bumper and handle, and a large cable. - lock through the frame and through the towing eye under the rear of the vehicle. It's all over now. I hope the photos give you further explanation. After this experience, I believe that if you take a little time to set up the bike and vehicle configuration, you can carry your bike(s) safely and securely with minimal abrasion.
