I would have no hesitation in hanging a heavy bike on it if it was mounted directly onto a cleat or skid plate. It's RELIABLE. I didn't use the included drywall anchors because I just don't trust drywall for holding a heavy bike. Your tires are going to destroy your wall anyway, so you could mount them to a piece of 2x2 plywood from the hardware store and screw the plywood onto the studs. It fits my WTB Riddler 27.5 perfectly. I can't speak for fatter tires. The pegs are thick and strong, but that means they're too big to fit between the spokes of some 16-inch kids' bikes.
