I wanted to buy a life preserver for my 2 year old to use on a trip to Hawaii. The hotel we stayed at had great pools but she is small and cannot swim by herself. I wanted something that would give her a bit of freedom without being dangerous. I was worried it would be too big because she only weighs about 24 pounds, but it worked really well. I think the kid has to be a real toddler for this to work - with long limbs that can walk, jump and maybe swim. Our daughter loves this float. In fact, she was able to become quite independent in the water and felt confident after training, circling, kicking and short distance swimming, backstroke and belly swimming. It really went a long way in enhancing our whole family's fun. While she still needed supervision, she enjoyed having a bit of freedom and learning about her body's capabilities.
