Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Versatile BLACK+DECKER Portable Workbench and Vise (WM425-A): The Ultimate Project Center Solution by Pius Aponte

Revainrating 3 out of 5

I miss my 20 year old from them.

I've had a B&D WorkMate for 20 years and I love it - portable yet durable, easy to set up, braves the daylight and still stands. Unfortunately one kid of mine left it outside for the winter without warning me and now as soon as the clamp screws get rusty and the wood top soaks up twice its weight in water he'll almost kick it to the curb on garbage day and start over . Bought as a replacement for my old friend. Let me tell you, this is NOT your 1990's WorkMate. It's MUCH heavier, but somehow feels less sturdy. MUCH harder to set up. The old one had two clips, one on each side, that unlocked it for installation; It has a thin bar on the front that is difficult to pull and gets in the way when trying to carry it. The top deck is MUCH thinner, lighter, and for some reason now three piece (and because it's thinner I can't reuse the clamps from the old one). To bring it all home there is this thin plastic toothed belt that should keep the buttons running in sync (there is an option to clamp odd shapes), but it always slips and is very difficult to put back on and cannot be used for clamping will be closed anyway. I don't think this will be a problem for long because it's really flimsy and I'm sure I'll break it very soon (tm). Good. Three stars because it really works like a portable workbench. But it's certainly not as good as its predecessor - if your dad has one from the '90s, steal it rather than buy this one. I have no idea why B&D had to contact the winner. But here it is.
