For the money I got I could care less about the temp gauge (about 4f less than my aquarium gauge, according to my other thermometer, and since that was different also this problem, I suspect it's not my other thermometers fault.) Anyway I like this heater as it's very small and the built in heat shield works great for the shrimp and my plants. I also like the optics. I used a 100 watt heater as it costs $4 compared to a 50 watt heater and not knowing the company too well didn't want the heater to recycle itself. (You might be thinking "But you could save your fish if the 50 watt battery died" but no, I can't as I'm only home 4 hours a night most of the day, so my tank is empty anyway.) I've heard that 100-watt has a higher success rate anyway, so I'll take a chance there. ok to be true as there aren't too many overheating reports i see more bad overheating reports from top brands maybe this company will be a savior in our present day of terrible aquarium heater manufacturers. And I'll definitely change my rating if something goes wrong, but so far I'm very, very satisfied.)
