I cut 10 end caps in 3/4" solid red oak planks to plug some 3/4" holes in my floor. Maximum insertion depth is approximately 0.50" when the cutter is fully down. On the photos you can see a roasting of the oak, which I could not avoid at any cutting speed or pressure. Best performance was at 450 rpm and light feed pressure. The plugs were cut with a table saw 0.47 inch long. The instrument creates a conical plug with a small radius on the narrow end to ease insertion. Small diameter 0.742 inch, large diameter 0.762 inch. This gave a good interference fit in a 0.75 inch diameter hole. The tool feels well made and apart from a slight burn it works very well. For comparison, I cut a .745 straight wall plug using a CNC router and a .125" drill bit. I ended up using tapered plugs.
