When remodeling our deck I had to plug some of the 3/4 inch holes left by the last railing. Used the same material as the soundboard and this cutter cut the EXACT size I needed. The taper allows the dowel to slide easily into the hole and then fit snugly for a perfect fit.

I cut 10 end caps in 3/4" solid red oak planks to plug some 3/4" holes in my floor. Maximum insertion depth is approximately 0.50" when the cutter is fully down. On the photos you can see a roasting of the oak, which I could not avoid at any cutting speed or pressure. Best performance was at 450 rpm and light feed pressure.
