Review on 🚴 Thule EasyFold XT 2 Hitch Bike Rack: Effortless Bike Transportation Made Simple by Francisco Yim

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Bike rack does not work as advertised when used on e-bikes with fat tires

It pains me to give Thule such a low rating for this bike rack, but in mine Observationally they have lost sight of what Thule is famous for; quality engineering. I bought a rack for two e-bikes specifically to accommodate the weight and size of the tires. My RadPower e-bikes weigh 65 pounds each and are 4 inches tall. fat tires Specs say up to 65 pounds and tires up to 4.7 inches. Thule was chosen for my new bike rack based on my experience with previous Thule racks that I have owned due to their careful design. The bike rack is not wide enough to hold my e-bikes without squeezing them, even though the 4" tire width is under the maximum calculated width limit of 4.7". In order to get the tires more on the post than on the edge, I mounted the first wheel and secured it. I put the second bike on and have someone flip it, attach the wheels, then marry it into the first bike and attach the clamp. The clamps don't seem to be properly secured to the bike frame, and squeezing the bikes together seems to increase the risk of them coming loose. I always add a safety cable between the bikes and the car. In case something goes wrong, the bikes pull instead of crashing into the car from behind. For this van I will tighten security measures to mitigate the risk which I believe is greater with this Thule van than other Thule vans I have owned. As far as weight goes, I'm concerned about the size of the strut mount on the hitch. The strut mount's yielding movement when I use the tilt function to get into the rear of the car feels overdone. As a result, I remove the batteries, seats, and anything else that is easily removable to save weight. I like the design concept. Too bad I have to use so many workarounds to use a bike rack.

Pros
  • Quickly mount and secure bikes with torque limiter handles and ratchet straps
Cons
  • Some difficulties
