Very Good Knife: Cutlery & Knife Accessories

This is a very good chef's knife from online Chinese brand Konoll, which seems to produce consistent quality products given the price. It doesn't have the perfect finish of a high quality knife, with some minor imperfections such as visible machining marks around the bolster and a wooden handle that doesn't match the two parts very well in color and a relatively dull blade finish under the dark oxidized pseudo-chiseled part. It's also a bit heavy, especially the handle; They seem to use the same large and heavy handle for all of their knives, so this one seems a bit unbalanced with a slightly shorter, lighter blade. The factory edge isn't very sharp either; You may want to re-sharpen it relatively soon after use. And although it comes in a nice gift box, there's a lot of silly, garbled, mistranslated English on the box. But that's really just a nitpick considering how much less it would cost than a high-end knife. The knife lies perfectly in the hand and is a pleasure to work with. The slightly softer steel should also be easy to sharpen and grind if necessary. Overall it can't fool anyone into being ultra high end but it's a pleasure to use and between function and form while the price is still right I highly recommend it.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • too boring
