I read many reviews before purchasing this can opener. It seems like some people just didn't bother to read the directions, or they just shouldn't have bought anything with nutrition. Many reviews say this can opener makes metal shavings. If you don't use it properly, then yes it will. The splinters are caused by the can opener not stopping after a full rotation. It's in the instructions. I also saw a customer complain that the cord was very short. Well, the cord goes in and out of the bottom of the can opener and is pretty long in my opinion. I have arthritis and this can opener has made my life so much easier. I'm making chili peppers and have to open 8 cans of assorted diced tomatoes and beans. Unfortunately, this can opener has received bad reviews from so many people who just have no idea how to use this wonderful can opener.
