There are many salt and pepper shakers that require a lot of force to open and close to fill, especially if you have arthritis or other mobility issues or cavities a certain product diameter (smaller or larger crystals and loops) for proper operation. I was able to easily open the containers and put them in the top rack of the dishwasher to clean. I have sea salt in various sizes as well as finely ground pepper. Because there are multiple hole sizes in shakers, I can use any grind size I want. I like red colored shakers because I want everyone to be able to find salt and pepper easily without asking me to stop and find containers for them. Very useful during the holidays.
