Review on Original Nintendo Drive Replacement Plug by Wayne Moody

Our 12 or 13 year old Wii has been reading discs well for as long as I can remember. When I recently tried to use it again in 2019, the drive kept crashing and couldn't read Wii and GameCube games. Then I started looking online for a suitable replacement drive and came across many different suppliers. I believe the seller of this was HongLei, but they don't always stock it as a direct seller. As a result, I was sent a replacement CD by a third-party Game Console Warehouse. The box it arrived in contained information from another seller of these replacement drives called abcGoodefg. I have no idea how reliable any of these sellers were, but this one turned out to be one of the higher rated sellers when sold directly from HongLei. very different, but it seems to be the exact part. It was most likely refurbished, but I can't expect a 'new' Wii drive in 2019. Installation was as simple as swapping the hard drive directly. Very easy if you have the right sharing tools. I was afraid the disc wouldn't run GameCube games based on the conflicting reviews people have left for this product, but in my experience it reads both Wii and GameCube games. I really liked the Wii's backwards compatibility with the GameCube and I'm glad I can continue to play older games with this replacement. It's very likely/possible that you'll end up with a disc that reads GameCube games or nothing at all, as third party providers aren't always reliable. Only time will tell if this drive will last as long as our old one.
