Doubled the speed of My SATA II to 550 Mbit/s. Asus Rampage II Extreme

So far so good. Here is my procedure as some had problems installing drivers and/or on Windows 10. I installed the card in an available slot, I haven't connected any SATA cables yet, left the original hard drive still plugged in in the original location, and then booted into Windows 10. After booting into Windows for a few minutes, I rebooted again without connect any drives. After booting into Windows one last time, I finally shut down and connected the hard drives' SATA cable to this new card, then went into the BIOS and again chose to boot from my SSD first. My motherboard is Asus Rampage II Extreme, it's SATA II only, so I got the max read/write speed of 270MB/s. In the first test after installing this card I got about 550 MB/s! much improved. I have never installed drivers from a boot disk using the procedure above. I let Windows choose the right one and the best one. I've attached a photo of my new speeds! I will run more tests but it is clear that I have doubled the speed of my recently purchased Samsung Pro 256GB SSD. I'll update later to see how it works in the long run. It's definitely faster opening programs and multitasking. I'm very satisfied with this product. I also tested my graphics card to see if sharing PCI lane resources is an issue and it isn't. On graphics card tests, I get the same results as before, maybe even a little better. :)

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • A lot
