My family teased me for being such an emergency radio but changed my tune when we had major power outages last winter. Weather alerts aside, being able to charge a USB device when there is no electricity or batteries is very important these days. Important things: all 3 radio bands, dynamo and batteries, flashlight. Bonus: Solar powered. , USB output for charging a mobile device, reading light mode. Radio reception isn't great, but with the antenna up I have no problem picking up local stations (just not crystal clear). A reading lamp or task light is a nice touch. And portable power banks are handy, but the ability to charging a mobile device from this thing -- simply with a crank or solar power -- provides another layer of security when you're out of power. My only star is the placement of the SOS alert button. It's in a spot where it's easy to accidentally activate it, and it's a black rubber button. It should be in a recess or even under the flap and be more clearly marked with a light color.
