I recently moved to the East Coast from Phoenix. And oh god I was so unprepared for the cold. I've had too many fancy jackets, but none for the freezing weather here. This fully met my requirements. Keeps me warm and protects against cold and wind. Best parts: 1. Extra stretchy sleeve in the arms covering all openings to let in the cold2. The jacket has a fleece lining inside which feels great3. Best of all is its water resistance. I became a total fan standing in line outside the museum in DC for an hour in the rain. I'm 5ft 7", average athletic build and the little ones fit just right.
