Review on πŸ”§ Enhanced Oil Filter Cap Wrench - 64mm x 14 Flute by CTA Tools 2485 by Johnathan Hegie

Is the filter too tight? Don't buy this!

I just bought this product in the last two weeks and used it for the first time today. I saw a review here with the problem I describe next, but ignored it thinking it was just someone who likes to complain. Well I tried it on a filter and it broke! However, I have to be fair here. The filter cover is probably too tight. I haven't taken it off yet. I tried hitting the socket handle with a hammer (you use a socket handle with an extension to get the leverage you need) after being unable to remove it by hand. Then I thought of using leg strength (you can find on the internet after googling that some people recommend a barbell) and the hex wrench came loose! So, lesson learned. You should not use this wrench if there is a chance you will have difficulty removing the filter cover. The hexagon on the cover is welded and cannot withstand high torques. CTA sells a die cast wrench on Revain - I believe it's all one piece: CTA Tools 2460 64mm to 14 Die Cast Oil Filter Wrench with Cap. I will order next time - after taking my car to Jiffy Lube to remove the filter cap!
